Citizen Code Enforcement Patrol
Most citizens of Golden would agree that we have a lovely, clean community. It is that cleanliness and beauty that contributes to the small town feel and sense of community that is enjoyed by our residents. With that in mind, the Golden Police Department has instituted a program, the Citizen Code Enforcement Patrol, to help maintain the beauty and safety of Golden for all its citizens and visitors to enjoy.
What Is It?
The Citizen Code Enforcement Patrol is comprised of a group of citizen volunteers who want to take a proactive approach in assisting the Code Enforcement Officers in dealing with code violations in our city. Each member has been trained in the city ordinances pertinent to their assignment. The program is designed strictly for the purpose of distributing information on specific code violations to the citizens and visitors of Golden.
Program Overview
Patrol members will:
- Patrol for at least two hours per week
- Contact citizens in violation of certain codes
- Provide citizens with a pamphlet explaining the code
- Return in one week to check for compliance
- If the citizen is not in compliance after one week, the patrol member will forward the information to the Code Enforcement Officers for further action
- Patrol members will attend court, should the need arise
Qualifications
Patrol members must:
- Be a resident of the City of Golden
- Meet the same conditions for employment as all volunteers within the police department
- Commit to two hours per week minimum to the program
- Be willing to contact citizens and give them a notification of a violation
- Contact citizens in a professional manner
- Attend an initial and all subsequent trainings
- Complete a five-hour ride along with Code Enforcement Officers
- Successfully complete all training prior to entry into the program
Trainings will be held in January, April, July and October of each year, as needed.
