Chimney Gulch Trail

Lookout Mountain and Chimney Gulch TrailAccess Points
Lookout Mountain Road west of US 6 and roadside parking on US 6 eastbound from State Highway 58.

This trail is in the Jefferson County Open Space trail system, and is connected to the Windy Gap Trail and Park. The gulch gets its name from fast moving wildfires that have occurred on the site. The trail climbs 2000' in 2.5 miles from Highway 6 to the summit at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. The trail is moderate to advanced and passes through grass prairie and pine forest, crossing streams at several places. The trail can be icy in winter and is often cool in summer. The trail is popular among hikers and mountain bikers.
